Kapwani Kiwanga: Changing States

Discover Changing States, the first solo exhibition in Spain by Kapwani Kiwanga, winner of the 2025 Joan Miró Prize, at the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona. Trained as an anthropologist, Kiwanga transforms complex historical and social processes into poetic, conceptually rigorous installations that resonate with Miró's radical spirit and the architecture of the building itself.

The exhibition brings together existing works and important new pieces created specifically for Barcelona. Kiwanga explores the materiality of the resources that circulate around us, the economic and cultural exchanges that shape our world, and today's crises of territory, from farming to housing, stretching beyond human timescales into geological time. Power, architecture, territory and the body run through every one of her formally refined installations.

Curated by Martina Millà with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, CUPRA and TBA21, Changing States confirms Kiwanga as one of the most compelling artists working today.
